Why here, not somewhere else

Every provider says they’re supportive. Here’s our evidence.

If you’re Proficient, you’ve probably already seen what churn does to a caseload and to a career. We don’t ask you to take culture claims on faith. Each of these comes with proof you can check before you apply.

You’ll stay, and so will the team around you

High turnover doesn’t just hurt participants; it strands practitioners without stable supervision or peers. Our practitioners typically stay two to four years, which means the colleagues you build your practice alongside (and the Core practitioners you guide) will still be here next year.

Work where the field learns

Practitioners at other providers read our publication and attend our professional development webinars. Here, that machine is your staff benefit, and at Proficient level, a platform: our senior practitioners help shape the clinical writing, PD and events the whole sector follows.

Complex work without an overloaded caseload

Proficient means broader, more complex casework, including participants with restrictive practices in place, not simply more casework. We publish our wait times publicly rather than overloading the practitioners we have. That discipline is what protects your caseload, and your clinical standards.

ProofLive wait times published on this website · regular supervision and peer reflection for every practitioner, at every level

Real employment, not a contractor gamble

Ads promising higher starting rates, no KPIs and “work your own hours” usually mean contracting. No leave, no super guarantee, personal liability, and no team when things get hard. Every Insight PBS practitioner is a full-time employee with the full safety net.

The role

What you’ll actually do

You’ll deliver Positive Behaviour Support to NDIS participants from early childhood through to older adults. You'll be improving quality of life, reducing behaviours of concern, and working towards the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices. As a Proficient practitioner, you’ll also carry clinical leadership: chairing care teams, co-authorising plans, and guiding Core practitioners.

Your responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments — psychological, behavioural, functional and risk to identify the factors behind behaviours of concern
  • Develop positive behaviour support plans that address behaviours and enhance quality of life, drawing on stakeholder input and your own assessment findings
  • Implement strategies alongside families, carers, support workers and other health professionals, with training, modelling and coaching so they can carry them out effectively
  • Collect and analyse data to monitor progress, evaluate interventions, and research alternative strategies when change is needed
  • Chair care team meetings, bringing an evidence-based, participant-focused position to the table
  • Co-authorise Behaviour Support Plans written by Core practitioners, and provide guidance and peer supervision as they develop
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders throughout service delivery

What you’ll need

  • Assessment as Proficient under the NDIS Commission PBS Capability Framework
  • Experience delivering Positive Behaviour Support services
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Occupational Therapy, Developmental Education, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Nursing, Health Science, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counselling, or another NDIS-recognised qualification
  • The ability to analyse and evaluate behaviour support plans and clinical data
  • Skills in providing professional practice peer supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and sound computer literacy
  • The capacity to work independently and as part of a team

Where this role leads

Proficient is a milestone, not the summit

The NDIS Commission recognises four practitioner levels. Because of our large, experienced team, you can progress through all four levels here. Supervision and PD included, with your caseload complexity stepping up at each stage.

Core

Less complex participants, close coaching from a team leader, foundations of assessment and planning.

You are here

Proficient

Independent practice across a broader caseload, including participants with restrictive practices in place, plus guidance of Core practitioners.

Advanced

Complex presentations, mentoring of Core practitioners, and clinical leadership within your team.

Specialist

The most complex work in the field, shaping practice standards across the organisation and the sector.

An employee role, next to a typical contractor offer

Many PBS job ads lead with a higher hourly rate. Here’s what that rate usually costs you once you look underneath it.
