How to get started

From enquiry to support, in five steps

Enquire or refer

Call 1300 824 930 or submit the referral form. Not sure about capacity in your suburb? Request a capacity check first.

Service agreement

Once your referral is accepted, we send a service agreement and forms. Your place on the waitlist begins when the signed agreement is returned, and every line item is agreed before delivery, as set out on our pricing page.

Assessment & planning

Your allocated Sydney practitioner conducts observations and assessments, then develops your NDIS Behaviour Support Plan grounded in a full understanding of the behaviour.

Implementation coaching

We coach families, schools and SIL staff to deliver the strategies themselves, because our role is intervention coaching, and PBS works when everyone is on the same page.

Review & adjust

Data-driven reviews keep the plan effective, with updates whenever needs change, and at least every 12 months for any plan containing a regulated restrictive practice.

FAQ

Positive Behaviour Support in Sydney, answered

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

Positive Behaviour Support is a way of working with people with mental illness and disabilities to improve their life with positive strategies and by addressing challenging behaviours. It focuses on understanding why a person behaves the way they do, then meeting those needs without behaviours of concern — through communication strategies, environmental changes, meaningful relationships and better access to activities the person enjoys. See our full process and role explained.

What suburbs do you service in Sydney?

We cover Greater Sydney: the CBD and Inner City, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore, Northern Beaches, Ryde and Epping, Parramatta and Western Sydney, Canterbury and Bayside, St George, the Sutherland Shire and the Macarthur region. The full suburb list is in the areas we service section above, and our capacity request form confirms your exact suburb within one business day.

How long is the wait for behaviour support in Sydney?

Our current Sydney wait times are published live on this page, synced with our central wait list. Your time on the waitlist begins once we receive a signed service agreement. Times are general and can vary weekly, so we recommend a customised capacity check for your suburb.

Which part of my NDIS plan pays for Positive Behaviour Support?

Funding is usually drawn from Capacity Building – Improved Relationships, which covers specialist behavioural intervention support including assessment hours, report writing and ongoing coaching. In some cases Improved Daily Living or Core funding can be used. Our intake team checks your plan and outlines the most efficient use of funds, and our pricing page explains every line item, rate and travel charge.

Do you work in Sydney schools?

Yes. We deliver positive behaviour support for learning in mainstream and specialist schools across Sydney and NSW, including teacher coaching, classroom observation and data-led workshops. Schools receive a tailored positive behaviour plan aligned with their student wellbeing framework and NSW Department of Education requirements.

Can you write a Behaviour Support Plan for autism?

Absolutely. Many of our practitioners have postgraduate study in autism and have developed hundreds of comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans for autistic participants, using neuro-affirming approaches throughout.

Can PBS help with trauma-related behaviours?

Yes. Our approach is trauma-informed, and many practitioners are specifically trained in trauma-informed practice. Practitioners look for environmental triggers, teach regulation skills and collaborate with psychologists so strategies are safe and respectful, with the goal of reducing restrictive practices and improving quality of life.

What’s the difference between an Interim and a Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan?

A Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan is a detailed document meeting all NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements, including functional assessment findings, proactive strategies and restrictive practice reduction steps. An Interim plan is shorter, used when urgent behaviours of concern need immediate mitigation while the full assessment continues. Both are lodged with the NDIS Commission and updated regularly.

What are the regulated restrictive practices?

The NDIS Commission monitors five categories: seclusion (sole confinement where voluntary exit is prevented or not facilitated), chemical restraint (medication used primarily to influence behaviour, excluding prescribed treatment of diagnosed conditions), mechanical restraint (devices used to restrict movement to influence behaviour), physical restraint (physical force to restrict movement to influence behaviour, excluding reflexive guiding away from harm), and environmental restraint (restricting free access to parts of a person’s environment, items or activities). Reducing and eliminating these practices is a core part of our work.

How quickly will I see results?

Every participant and family is different, but most families notice early improvements within four to six weeks once strategies are implemented consistently. We collect baseline data, set clear indicators and review progress frequently so the plan stays effective.

How often does a Behaviour Support Plan need to be reviewed?

At a minimum, any plan containing a regulated restrictive practice must be reviewed every 12 months, or earlier if the participant’s circumstances change.

Do you provide services outside Sydney and NSW?

Yes. Beyond Greater Sydney we service Penrith, Wollongong, Nowra and the Central Coast & Newcastle, and Insight PBS operates nationally across Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. If you move interstate, your practitioner coordinates a smooth handover to the next regional team.
